ESKAPING KLOWN KHAOS is a JECK ONE Graffiti Contemporary piece about carrying someone you love through a difficult season. The intentionally respelled title carries JECK ONE’s graffiti language into the name itself: ESKAPING KLOWN KHAOS.
Inspiration
This piece came from a difficult period in my wife’s career and in our relationship. She was working in a corporate environment that was taking something out of her. I watched the pressure of that environment begin to affect how she saw herself, and eventually, it began affecting us.
I knew she deserved better.
So I became actively involved in helping her find her way out. That period wasn’t easy for either of us, and I don’t look back on myself as standing safely on the outside trying to rescue her. We were going through it together.
That is why the imagery of this piece is so literal to the story. I’m carrying her on my back while we escape the clowns and chaos surrounding us.
Eventually, we made it through. She moved into an environment where her abilities were recognized and valued, and she began finding enjoyment in what she does again.
ESKAPING KLOWN KHAOS represents something I learned about partnership during that period: sometimes loving someone means helping carry the weight when what they’re carrying becomes too heavy.
You don’t always escape chaos alone. Sometimes somebody who loves you carries you through it.
