juicyBLACK
Some inspiration comes with a kiss.
juicyBLACK came from something simple and personal—the kisses I got from my fiancée.
At this point in my life, the woman I had chosen was no longer only influencing how I thought about commitment and companionship. Our relationship was naturally finding its way into my artwork through affection, attraction and intimacy.
The oversized lips became the center of the piece, while my JECK lettering cuts directly across them. The deep reds against the black background give the image its intensity, but the inspiration behind it wasn’t complicated.
I love kissing her.
And apparently I love it enough to make art about it.
That’s juicyBLACK.
There’s playfulness in the title, attraction in the imagery and something unmistakably personal behind both. But like a lot of my work, you don’t need to know the exact moment that inspired it to understand the feeling.
A kiss can be soft. Passionate. Playful. Familiar. Sometimes it’s all of those things depending on who’s giving it.
For me, these particular kisses came from her.
The inspiration is personal.
The feeling isn’t.
